Ilala Palm Storage Basket
Hand-woven basket with a fitted lid, made by a cooperative in KwaZulu-Natal.
Ilala palm is cut and dried at the weaving site before it ever reaches a workshop bench, and that slow preparation is what gives this basket its tight, even wall. It holds its shape when empty, which matters if you keep it in a hallway or beside a guest bed where nothing is pressing against the sides.

It suits a folded throw, a week of laundry, or stacked guesthouse bedding. Because the fibre is natural, the tone will deepen slightly with age if it sits in daylight, so a shaded corner keeps it closer to how it arrives.
