Size and capacity in plain numbers

Diameter, height and volume in millilitres or centimetres, measured on the actual piece. Useful when you are matching a mug to a shelf gap or checking whether a basket fits beside a bed.

Material and where it comes from

Speckled local clay, European flax, ilala palm dried on site. If a fibre or glaze behaves differently over time, the listing says so before you order rather than after.

Care notes that match real use

Dishwasher cycles, line drying in shade, pressing linen on the reverse. Written for households that actually wash things, not for a display shelf.

Four hand-thrown mugs in speckled clay

These mugs are thrown on the wheel in a two-person studio in Woodstock, then glazed in a matte oat that lets the iron speckle of the local clay read through. Each holds roughly 320 ml, comfortable for a long morning coffee or tea. Because they are made by hand, wall thickness and rim height vary slightly between pieces, which is part of the character rather than a flaw. Dishwasher safe on a low cycle, though hand washing keeps the glaze surface even over years of daily use.

Stonewashed linen in deep olive, 180 cm

Woven from mid-weight European flax and stonewashed twice so it arrives already soft, this runner measures 180 by 40 cm and drapes without stiffness. The deep olive dye is low-impact and will fade gently toward a softer green over the first year of washing. It works on a long dining table, a sideboard, or folded across the foot of a bed. Woven by a cooperative in KwaZulu-Natal from ilala palm harvested and dried on site, this basket is built with a tight weave that holds its shape even when empty. The fitted lid sits flush and keeps dust off stored linen. It measures roughly 40 cm across and 45 cm high, which suits a folded throw, a week of laundry, or guesthouse bedding. Wipe with a dry cloth; keep out of prolonged direct sun to preserve the natural tone of the fibre.
